Nollaig Casey and Arty McGlynn-June 19th, 2004

Hello
again!
I know it’s a strange time of the year to
be contacting ye all, but a special night presented
itself to us and we couldn’t resist it. On Saturday, June 19th, Arty McGlynn and Nollaig
Casey are coming to play in our club.
I have a feeling most of you will be
acquainted with one or both of these musicians, but
just in case, here’s a potted biography of them
and their duet. They met as musicians and shared the
stage with such acts as Andy Irvine, Planxty and
Maura O’Connell among others. They got along well
outside the music… so much so that they got
married in 1984. They have released two previous CDs
called “Lead the Knave” and “Causeway”. They
also have a beautiful new CD out, which will be
available on the night.
Nollaig is from Co. Cork and has won numerous
All-Ireland titles in fiddle and singing
competitions. She is also an accomplished classical
violinist. She has played on such landmark
programmes as “Bringing It All Back Home” and
“A River Of Sound”. She tours with Donal Lunny’s
band “Coolfin” and is a star of “Riverdance”.
Arty is from Omagh, Co. Tyrone. He is one of
the most gifted and sought-after guitarists in
Ireland. Though from a traditional background his
first love was jazz guitar and he was playing
professionally by the age of 15! After that he
played with many different bands in many different
genres. In the late ‘70s his interest swung back
to trad and his reputation has soared ever since. He
has played and recorded with Planxty, Patrick
Street,Van Morrison and Liam O’Flynn.
So
there you have it. Watch out for the change of
night! It will start at 9.30pm in the usual place,
upstairs in The Carlovian, and the admission is the
usual €10. Please try to make it as I think this
could be one of those unforgettable nights! If you
know a friend who may be interested, be sure to let
them know.
Until then, slán go fóill,
Dave, Michelle, Gerard, Janet.
