Dia
dhaoibh go léir!
It’s
that time again. Another year of music and fun
begins. We heard this musical couple a little while
ago and were impressed by their ability and their
sense of fun on the stage. So we are delighted to
welcome them to our folk club in Carlow. It’s a
bit of a new departure musically for us as Chris and
Máire- while excelling in traditional Irish music-
also perform other genres of music remarkably
well.
Máire
participated in this year’s World Harp Congress
which was held in Dublin last July. She played in
the Grand Opening Concert in front of thousands of
people and later in the week gave her own solo
recital. She is a member of a famous musical family
and her sister, Nollaig played in our club with her
husband, Arty McGlynn.
Chris
is principal guitar tutor at Newcastle
University’s folk music degree course. He is a
virtuoso player and a noted composer of music. Chris
recorded some fine solo albums in the 80’s, most
notedly “Chris Newman” and “Chris Newman
Two”-as he says in his publicity, titles were
never his strong point. There’s plenty of
imagination in his music, though!
Chris
and Máire have a lovely website if you want more
information or to download music clips etc. Their
address is www.oldbridgemusic.com.
So,
we hope to see you there on the night and at the
many other great nights lined up for this
winter/spring.
Slán go fóill,
Dave
