CARLOVIAN TRADITIONAL MUSIC CLUB

James Cullinane & Kevin Crawford, December 7th 2007

Dia dhaoibh arís.

The time has arrived again! Another night of great music approaches and once again we hope you can come along to share in it. Thanks firstly to all who came along to Brian and Garry – they gave us a wonderful night of music, song and fun.

I am especially happy to welcome our first guest. He has been a musical hero of mine for many years and we’ve finally managed to secure him for the club. James Cullinane is from Doolin and would feature on any fiddle players favourites list. He is a master of the fiddle and has a wonderful array of tunes with which he can stun the listener. It can be difficult to lure him from his Clare lair so this performance in Carlow is a rare privilege.

Also on stage on the night will be Kevin Crawford, a man that needs little introduction. Kevin is flute player with the band, Lunasa, and has also recorded many fine solo CDs along with my favourite, a CD of duets with various fiddlers (James among them). He is hilarious on stage, as anyone who has attended a Lunasa gig will testify to. Again, it is a rare occurance to hear Kevin play in such intimate surroundings as our venue, and I’m sure you will want to be part of this special occasion.

The third musician is a man who played fiddle in the club some years back. Mick Conneely will play mainly bouzouki for this gig, though I’m sure we could coax a tune on the fiddle from him! Anyone who was at his last gig here will remember not only the magical night of music, but also one of the most comedic nights we have had as Mick shared some brilliant jokes with us.

The gig takes place on Friday, December 7th in The Carlovian, Tullow Street, Carlow. We start at 9.30pm and admission is €15. I have a feeling this will be well attended so please arrive early to ensure admission. I hope you can come along as this line-up is guaranteed to be memorable.

Slán go fóill,

Dave
