CARLOVIAN TRADITIONAL
IRISH MUSIC CLUB
Photos of the night
We have come to the
final night of this year’s very
successful run of concerts and I want to
thank all who came along and made the
whole experience so enjoyable. Sorry to
those who missed out on last month’s
gig- I am sure you understand that we
were unable to let in everybody who came
along as the room was full to capacity!
We have another
legend of Irish music coming to Carlow
next Friday night, April 4th.
I heard this man play a set in Ennis
last November and was blown away by his
music. His name is Finbarr Dwyer. He
comes from the Beara peninsula but spent
many years in England. He recently
returned to Ireland and now resides in
Co. Clare. He comes from a musical
dynasty which includes his brothers
Richie, John and the late Michael
Dwyer.
Finbarr is a genius
on not only the accordion, but guitar
and keyboards also. He has composed some
of the finest tunes in the traditional
repertoire and these tunes are to be
heard in sessions and concerts and on
many, many recordings all over the
world. It is amazing to see this man
play his accordion. He has an incredible
imagination and when he plays, you know
he is the real deal- he is a
trendsetter, not a follower!
I don’t have the
details on who is coming with Finbarr,
but I will let you know when I hear from
him. The gig is in the Carlovian and
begins at 9.30pm. The admission is 15E.
I hope you can come along.
I would also like to
draw your attention to the Carlow Fleadh
which takes place the following weekend,
April 11th-13th.
We have the usual line-up of sessions
and competitions, but you may be
interested in our Fleadh Concert which
takes place in the Lord Bagenal on
Friday, April 11th. We are
bringing another renowned accordion
player to Carlow. He is Seamus Begley
from Co. Kerry. Apart from being a great
box player he has a unique and beautiful
singing voice. He is also just a little
bit mad and nights with him are seldom
boring!! He is accompanied by the gifted
Jim Murray on guitar. The night will
also feature some set-dancing which
brings the music of Seamus Begley to
life. Full details of the weekend are on
the website,
www.carlowtrad.com.
I hope you can
come along for some (or all) of the
weekend in Leighlinbridge.
Until Then,
Slan go foill
